Do Not Fear

Do Not Fear

I’ve been getting in to Pinterest lately, thanks to the suggestion of an arty colleague. I’ve always been a fan of great art and the artists who create it. This week I’ve been looking at different fonts, character design, quotes, etc and during some downtime at work today I thought I’d do some doodling. I grabbed some words and fonts from different artworks in a quick attempt to play with form and fill and empty page.

“Do not fear,” is from one of my favourite verses, below, as are “wait” and “prayer,” all very important parts of the life that follows Christ. Of course there are many more, but I couldn’t fit serve, obey, forgive…all on one page. 🙂

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10

“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31

“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-17

Hold My Heart

Hold My Heart
I recently rediscovered Hillsong United’s previous album, Zion. I was helping a friend assemble some IKEA furniture and we needed some musical accompaniment as we wrangled the bits and bobs. I plugged in my iPhone to his awesome stereo and left Zion running, knowing that I hadn’t really listened to it since its release in 2013. It’s funny how giving an album another chance can make you reevaluate it. When Love Is War began playing, I made a mental note to remember it. For me, it’s the standout track, with the much loved Oceans (Where Feet May Fail) a close second. Below are the complete lyrics. It’s a good reminder that true love is worth fighting for. Not the romantic, emotional love that power ballads and Hollywood glorifies, but the daily, sacrificial love we must exhibit to those around us. It’s a choice, not always a feeling. Sometimes we don’t feel like loving others. We don’t feel like giving that friend a second chance, or forgiving the hurtful words of our family members, but love sees beyond feelings and  into the person’s value and worth, and into the truth that Christ died for all. He fought and gave it all for more than your attention, but for your precious salvation. That’s the kind of love that He shows us, and that’s the kind of love we, as His ambassadors, must fight to show the world.

“We love because he first loved us.” 1 John 4:19

“Love never fails.” 1 Corinthians 13:8

“Love Is War”

In Your justice and Your mercy
Heaven walked the broken road
Here to fight this sinner’s battle
Here to make my fall Your own

Turn my eyes to see Your face
As all my fears surrender
Hold my heart within this grace
Where burden turns to wonder

I will fight to follow
I will fight for love
Throw my life forever
To the triumph of the Son

Let Your love be my companion
In the war against my pride
Long to break all vain obsession
Till You’re all that I desire

Turn my eyes to see Your face
As all my fears surrender
Hold my heart within this grace
Where burden turns to wonder

I will fight to follow
I will fight for love
Throw my life forever
To the triumph of the Son

And I know Your love has won it all
You took the fall
To embrace my sorrows
I know You took the fight
You came and died but the grave was borrowed
I know You stood again
So I can stand with a life to follow
In the light of Your name

Turn my eyes to see Your face
As all my fears surrender
Hold my heart within this grace
Where burden turns to wonder

I will fight to follow
I will fight for love
Throw my life forever
To the triumph of the Son

And I know Your love has won it all
You took the fall
To embrace my sorrows
I know You took the fight
You came and died but the grave was borrowed
I know You stood again
So I can stand with a life to follow
In the light of Your name
